A team full of energy, that's clearly switched on…
Our Industrial Projects Division has been specially commissioned
by EDF International, one of Europe’s leader in production,
distribution and commercialization of electricity, for the transport
of a Generator Rotor to be urgently supplied and deliver
to a nuclear power plant in Cape Town (South Africa) according
to an emergency scope involving the French and South African authorities
at highest level.
This 21x2.6x2.5 meters rotor of 210 tons had to be transported
between the EDF site of Saint Leu d’Esserent in the Paris
region (France) for delivery on board of a military ship specially
chartered by the South African authorities and calling at Antwerp
port in Belgium.
An operational meeting was immediately organized with all parties
(EDF special emergency cell, South-African Navy representatives,
a manufacturer representative and our Industrial Projects team)
in view to define and set up the operational and working procedures
as follows:
-transport by barge directly from EDF site to Antwerp docks
-transfer of the heavy lift and stowage onto the stern flying
deck of the helicopter carrier.
-special securing, lashing and covering operations for high sea
on deck transportation.
The rotor has been delivered in Antwerp according to schedule
and operations on board were completed within 11 consecutive hours.
This operation was performed in association with our Antwerp agency.
After a 14 days voyage at sea the Rotor has been delivered at
Cape Town port in perfect conditions.
After having received from EDF their words of satisfaction, we
had also the pleasure to be informed that the South African department
of foreign affairs thanked French authorities, EDF, and the South
African Electricity company for this successful operation.
