Special flight to Cairo
On time delivery of 226 tonnes of steel for the petroleum
industry.
Our Belgian teams, with our french SDV International Logistics
chartering department, organised the transport by plane of 226
tonnes of steel tubing for one of the world’s leading producers.
This operation was organised to respond to an urgent request from
a petroleum plant in Cairo (Egypt).
An oversized mission, needing an Antonov 124 (one of the most
powerfull civil aircraft in the world with a useful load of 120
tonnes and 4 turbofans of 230 kN each) and a high precision task
for our teams : the tubes had to be counted and weighed individually
so that document could be drawn up and the aircraft cargo could
be properly loaded.
A very special operation because of the particular shape and
the unusual length of those items (14,5 meter). This meant that
we needed cradles and retaining panels on aircraft to secure the
tubes. Security requirements were maximum. It was imperative that
the tubing didn’t shift during transport.
Two rotations were necessary to convey the tubes to Cairo.
For a special operation of that kind, SDV International Logistics
was the ideal choice as the company regularly handles oversized
air shipments.
